Federal taxes are used to fund public projects for the benefit of the people. They are used for infrastructure and to provide public programs such as programs for the poor or disabled.
Jails and prisons are funded mostly by local, state, and federal taxes. If you work and pay taxes then you fund jails and prisons.

So all who pay taxes technically pay or fund the US Military, just as you would fund schools, road repairs or construction, parks and wildlife, bailouts, health care reforms, welfare, Medicare/Medicaid and many others. All soldiers pay taxes so they themselves are paying for themselves.
