There is the possibility that the person before you may have used cheats on the game and make it unusable. For example, I bought a Pokemon Fire red from GameStop. That is more something that you would work out at a Gamestop while you were there. They can not really do more that check that it does play and it might help if you were willing to purchase the used cords from them if it does work. You might say before you purchase the cords from them you want to verify that the console will work because otherwise you would not need the cords or are returnable.
