Now, If the thermal coupler fails or if the pilot light goes out, The relay shuts the gas off at the valve to prevent gas from filling the house. The difference between the range, heater and dryer is that the dryer has the safety built in to disable the gas for total power failure. The range and heater can still run with out electricity.
