It's high noon and I'm watching 2 of them right now - so - yep - they come out in day light.
Yes, groundhogs are also related to the squirrel and the beaver. Skunks are related to the groundhogs... To find more information, go to Google.com to get the information about these creatures.
The significance of this holiday is just to see how long winter will last. This is only for entertainment purpose and weather centers sometimes predict differently than the groundhog. Hope this helps!
Groundhog day is based on a superstition about the prediction of Spring. Groundhogs might emerge from their burrows, and if they stayed out for a while, then Spring would come early. If they went right back inside (or "saw their shadows"), then it would be another long winter.
I'm not sure just what you mean by "used instead of". Groundhogs are also called woodchucks, that term is probably more common in the UK.
Groundhog Day is celebrated on February 2 in the US and Canada. According to folklore, if a groundhog emerging from its burrow on this day fails to see its shadow, it will leave the burrow, signifying that winter will end soon. If the groundhog sees its shadow, the groundhog will supposedly retreat into its burrow, and winter will continue for six more weeks.
Winter is just as long to a groundhog as to us, but supposedly, groundhogs can predict the season changes. According to the legend, if the groundhog on leaving its burrow does not see his shadow, it will leave the burrow , which it means that winter will soon end. If, however, it "sees his shadow" and is frightened, it will go back into the Burrow, meaning that winter will last six more weeks.
it looks like a furry little creature.it has lot of fur around it.ANS2:There is a picture of Punxsutawney Phil (the one without the hat) at the link below. He is one of the more famous groundhogs.
Yes, he did. According to at least three groundhogs in North America (Punxsutawney Phil, Shubenacadie Sam and Wiarton Willie) who all saw their shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter in 2010.
Last I checked with my groundhog he didn't have any superstitions, however, humans who live predominantly in North America have a weather forecasting superstition (or more precisely a myth) about him. It is believed that the groundhog always comes out of his den on the second of February to ascertain the weather conditions. If when he pokes his head out of hi den, he sees his shadow (the day is bright & sunny) then it is said he returns to his den because winter has six more weeks of control of the land. If he does not see his shadow (the day is overcast or the weather inclement) he remains above ground and expects Spring to appear. This can most likely be traced back to an old British rhyme: If Candlemas be fair and bright, Come, Winter, have another flight. If Candlemas brings clouds and rain, Go Winter, and come not again.
No ground hogs day is not real because scientist that are called Meteorologist study the weather for a period of time and when they come to the conclusion of whether it is six more weeks of winter or an early spring and then when the mayor picks up the groundhog the meteorologists tell him threw a mini microphone the answer
the groundhog looks out his hole , if he sees his shadow there will be six more weeks of winter.
If a groundhog sees its shadow then there will be 6 more weeks of winter.
