Does guitar class in high school require an acoustic or electric guitar?

The big difference between these types of guitar is that an electric is much quieter than an acoustic. In a high school class full of teenagers a student with an Electric Guitar will not be able to be heard by the teacher. This is a BIG detriment to one's progression with the instrument. Most classes require an acoustic guitar but technically you can still learn in a group setting with a quieter electric guitar.

yes it is, as long as u have both guitars in the same tuning. the notes on the neck will be the same on any guitar just as long as both are tuned the same. for example say you have an acoustic and electric both tuned in standard, if you play the fifth fret on your acoustics 6th(top) string it would be an A. likewise if you were to pick up the electric (remember it is in the same standard tuning) and play the same note on the same string it would also be an A. is that helpful?

I have been playing guitar ever since kindergarten (12 years) and I think guitar is overrated. There are kids at school that play strictly chords, and you hear people say ,"oh you're the best guitar player EVER!" But that all they know, guitar is about being able to play any genre you can. My band, we have a metal core, death core, post core sound, but that's not all I know how to play, I can play jazz, blues, acoustic, any metal etc. But there is only opinions to this question there won't be an answer.
