If you had a spoon and heated one end of it the other end would get hot more quickly than if you heated one end of some water in the same shape as a spoon (not easy!!) and measured the heat at the other end of that. This is because the conductivity of silver is greater than that of water.

However, if you had a column of water and heated the bottom, the top would get warm fairly quickly because of, not only conduction, but also convection, where the hot water rises and the cold water comes down. Silver does not move like this so the heat transfer by convection would be zero.

How does a spoon get hot in hot water?

When a spoon is placed in hot water, the heat energy from the water is transferred to the spoon through conduction. The heat causes the particles in the spoon to move faster, increasing its temperature.

Does sound travel faster in sea water or air?

it travels faster in water

Think of a metal spoon in a pot of hot water. How do the particles of the water affect the particles of the spoon?

Conduction is what transfers the heat in this process. The fast moving particles in the hot electric coil collide with the slow-moving particles in the cool pot. The transfer of the heat causes the pot's particles to move faster. Then the pot's particles collide with the water's particles, which in turn collide with the particles of the spoon. As the particles move faster, the metal spoon becomes hotter.

Light waves travel more as they enter water?

yes they travel faster :)

Does sound travel faster in Ice Water or Steam?

Sound travels faster in ice water compared to steam. This is because sound waves travel faster in denser mediums, and ice water is denser than steam. So, the speed of sound in ice water is faster than in steam.

Does sounds travel faster though water of through air?

Sound travels faster in water than it does in air. It travels even faster in metals.

Does sound travel faster in a Ice Steam or water?

Sound travels faster in water than in ice or steam. This is because sound waves travel faster through denser materials, and water is denser than both ice and steam.

Does sound travel faster underwater or in air?

under water because of the water
