Hypnosis is not in itself a treatment for anything; rather it is a means of producing a very relaxed, focused, and hyperattentive, state of mind. This can be helpful - eg as a means of stress management, or as a way of encouraging someone to discuss and reflect upon matters which s/he might otherwise be reluctant to consider openly.
The heightened suggestibility of a hypnotised person also makes it easier for him/ her to accept the possibilities of changing aspects of lifestyle which may be doing harm; examine the root cause of phobias, negative self-image, or other personal issues, and, therefore, to learn to overcome or manage them more effectively.
The dissociative aspect of being hypnotised may, in some cases, be used to help some individuals better manage such problems as chronic pain.
In a few cases, highly hypnotisable individuals (who have consented to such!) may be "reconditioned" during intensive hypnotherapy to eliminate or change negative self perceptions: this would be highly unusual, and only ever done as an integral part of more general counselling/ psychotherapy dealing with extreme circumstances, such as trying to address the long-term effects of childhood abuse etc..
lots of people say that but its not actually true

There are several types of hypnosis techniques, including traditional hypnosis, Ericksonian hypnosis, neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), and self-hypnosis. Traditional hypnosis involves inducing a trance-like state to access the subconscious mind, while Ericksonian hypnosis uses indirect suggestions and language patterns. NLP combines hypnosis with language techniques to change behavior patterns, and self-hypnosis involves inducing a hypnotic state on oneself for self-improvement or relaxation.
Good question! NLP uses aspects of conversational hypnosis which was modeled from the work of Dr. Milton H. Erickson in the 1970's. Therefore, all of NLP has and uses some distinctions from hypnosis - in a very indirect manner. Hypnosis specifically however, uses more direct suggestions and is often a do-to therapeutic tool where NLP is more of a do-with tool. Please let me know if I can help further!
