I think so because birds usually need a lot of room to fly around.

Did you mean "parakeets"? They can't really see "forward". Each one takes care of one side of the parakeet. The left eye knows what's going on over in the left side of the room, and the right eye knows what's going on in the right side of the room. Parakeet eyesight is even more powerful than that of humans - they see into the ultraviolet spectrum.
It is hooked to help them climb and dig into vegetables.
Well based on what I know Parakeets are pretty smart but depending on how old your Parakeet is can help you on its skill level in tricks. If you have a young Parakeet or a Parakeet with little to no trick knowledge start by giving it the basics or simple voice phrases.
If it is a single parakeet--leave the egg in the cage till it gets cracked.this is suppose to discourage from laying more.
