It depends. If last Friday was a holiday, it makes sense.

If the weather caused the roads to be hazardous or there was another emergency, it makes sense. Sometimes when it snows, people think school was closed without the roads getting bad enough to close them, so they don't think closing schools made sense. The administrators look at the whole picture throughout the district. Even though it might look like it didn't make sense to close schools, it probably made a lot of sense.
