I believe the shortest route (depending on stop overs) from Toronto to Cape Town is via London Heathrow. Take AirCanada to London and South African Airways directly to Cape Town. There are various other options available; through Amsterdam (with KLM) or Abu Dhabi (with Etihad). If you cannot find a suitable direct flight, you can also try flying to Johannesburg and catching one of numerous domestic flights to Cape Town (about 2hrs).
