Well I have to say that as a guardian of the Master Emerald, I would say he probably has grown on it. Saying its 'his precious jewel'.
But, even though him and Rouge fight a lot, I would say Knuckles loves her at least a little bit without even knowing. To me, I'd like to think that Knuckles may think of her as 'his gem'.
