Yes, that is one of the primary reasons for using live preview.
Formatting marks only appear in the print preview option when you enable them in your settings. They do not, however, print on paper.
It is a Live Preview. As you point to different things you wish to change in formatting Word will show you the result in "real time" or a "Live Preview".

There is an easy way to make changes while in Print Preview. Simply click to select the "magnifying glass" or "magnifier" from the toolbar. Now you can point and click the mouse in the document and make necessary changes. When the "magnifier" is not selected, the magnifier acts as a "zoom" option.
