I am not a doctor, but it's generally advisable to avoid combining marijuana or any other substances with medications without consulting a healthcare professional. Metronidazole is an antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections, and mixing it with other substances, including marijuana, may have unpredictable effects and interactions.

Both marijuana and metronidazole can have effects on the central nervous system, and combining them may increase the risk of side effects such as dizziness or drowsiness. Additionally, marijuana can interact with medications in ways that affect their effectiveness or increase the risk of side effects.

If you are prescribed metronidazole and have questions about its interactions with other substances, including marijuana, it's crucial to discuss this with your healthcare provider. They can provide personalized advice based on your medical history and specific circumstances. Always follow your healthcare professional's guidance for the safest and most effective use of medications.

listen up, this is my little story...

just a couple of days ago i smoked a joint while being on metronidazol 400mg for 4 days, three times a day 1 tablet.

i used to smoke quite a lot but i cut down my habit big times so i was not used to THC too much anymore. i still enjoy it but appreciate the trip a lot more nowadays.

so i got pretty stoned by smoking this joint, played some boardgames with a friend of mine and all of a sudden got a heavy rush through my entire body. colours got more bright, my vision got blurred and i felt a heavy pressure. my pulse rose up to 120 per second, i got paranoid and confused and my body stared to shake and cramp a bit.

i am a stable person and my friend is a very close one. i knew it will take me some time to get out of the bad-trip, cause i had some already, which were quite alike in some way, not of cannabis though rather than of some other psychedelic drugs.

i got restless in one way, as my heart was beating so fast in contrast to my very slow, gentle and steady breathing; i thought of an end of my time on earth, which was one of the paranoid thoughts i had.

the thing is at the point of bad-tripping, which took me almost 3 hours, passages of my history got into my mind, thoughts about my family, friends, places i have seen and so on.

i tried to calm myself down and in some way could describe my whole situation to my friend, had frustrated laughs about the sensation, which really was not pleasant.

all in all it became a part of my life. while being on the wrong way of the trip, my friend searched the internet for answers but could only find a few.

my conclusion is: get your body sorted first while being on that medicine and when the cure is done enjoy your joints. it just does not work together very well and i hope i will not be in this situation again. i can handle bad trips and hte three times i woke up next day were beautiful ones as is my life.

i just hope you do not need this experience to move on with your lives and it is better without.

peace

I experienced almost the exact same thing as the person above described but under slightly different circumstances. I smoke pot regularly and have been on Flagyl (Metronidazol) 500mg 3x per day for the last two weeks. I didn't notice any real difference with just smoking and being on the medication, but I experienced the most traumatic trip of my life when my friend gave me 1/3 of a pot brownie from the club after being on the meds for about a week. Now this is the strongest brownie they sell and what I took was equal to 3 doses (whatever that means).

After the brownie kicked in, my stomach cramped up and I felt like I had to go to the bathroom but when I tried I couldn't. My heart was racing so fast and my mind was losing control with anxiety and confusion. I have what I consider a high level of awareness and mental control and have experimented with mushrooms, LSD and large doses of cannabis and never have I not been able to keep some level of sanity or awareness of the fact that I was on something or that the affects would go away at some time. I fought really hard in the beginning of this bad trip to keep control of my heart rate and my mind and thoughts and succeeded for a few minutes once the chaos started to ensue, but unfortunately I lost it again and my "normal" stream of thought didn't return until 3-4 hours later.

Once I lost it so to speak, my legs and most of my body felt like they were on the verge of cramping up (much like being really dehydrated) and my stomach was nauseous and cramping in pain. It was very difficult to move around and I became disoriented and confused. I didn't know what day it was, where my wallet or phone or keys were, I was unable to put on a pair of pants...basically I couldn't function. Somehow I made it onto my bed and then went into a very dark place.

I was 100% convinced that I was dying. I thought that my whole body was infected with something and that I was diseased and all of my house mates and friends didn't like me because I was this disease spreading sick person. my friend who had given me the brownie called me during this and i guess my phone was next to me because I started talking to him telling him I'm dying and that I'm infected and that I need help and need to go to a hospital and so on. He was basically laughing at me thinking I'm just high and couldn't understand what I was really going through. Once I hung up I lost track of my phone and luckily was incapable of calling for help since I wasn't really dying. But my vision was pulsing and I couldn't focus on anything. I thought I might be having a seizure but didn't know since I'd never had one. Then came the part where I accepted the fact that no one was going to be able to help me and that I was going to die that night right there on my bed. I truly gave up on life and surprisingly was content with it.

3 am came and at that point I came back to awareness and even though I was still kinda messed up I knew that all those thoughts and feelings and realizations were imaginary creations from my mind and the drug combo.

All in all it was a very traumatic yet interesting experience. I am still slightly shaken up 7 days after and my mind felt slow and drained for 3-4 days after. At least I now know how it feels right before you are about to die, but I don't wish this experience upon anyone and don't suggest trying it purposefully. Also like the person above I'm lucky I've been through bad trips before because somewhere deep in my mind there was this glimmer of hope that it was just a bad trip and not reality; I think that someone who had never experienced anything in that realm would be really really freaking out.

I think that you should ask you doctor if it would be okay. But from my point of view i think when you first take it that you shouldn't smoke marijuana or drink at all because it could cause a side affect to the medication/antibiotic that you are taking to help cure your infection. Metronidazole is mostly used for pelvic inflamatory infection. Which in other cases is Clymedia and while takin antibiotics for that you are NOT suppose to smoke marijuana. But at the end i think it would be okay maybe the very last day or two. Just the begining would be a little to risky. and DO NOT DRINK! on this medication because it could totally block out the cure that its suppose to have on your body and could cause serious vomiting, seizures, headachs, and a lot of other symptoms that arent to fun to have. Plus you should smoke marijuana anyways its bad for you. Even though everyone does it!!!I think that you should ask you doctor if it would be okay. Marijuana is an illegal drug. Smoking it at any time is dangerous. You certainly should not be smoking while your body is trying to fight off an infection.

Here's something to think about - if you crave pot so much that you can't put down the dope long enough to finish a round of antibiotics, you've got a problem.

Mixing metronidazole or many other antibiotics with marajuana can have a halucination effect. It can also result in severe sickness and lack of oxygen reaching the brain. I highly recomed you DO NOT mix the two drugs together.
