Best Answer

it is neither. no chemical reaction or physical change (melting boiling etc) can change net mass

only nuclear reactions change the over all mass by converting mass to energy via Einstein's famous E=MC^2 equation

The mass of an ingredient does not change during physical changes. Because a physical change does not make a new substance, the mass cannot change. For example, if you cut a sugar cube in two, then the sum of the masses of these two halves should be equal to the original mass of the uncut cube.

Yes, it does. It does not change in a Chemical Change though.

-------

In this case (physical change) mass doesn't change.

In a chemical change the total mass remain unchanged but the reactants are transformed.

no there isnt, mass is neither created nor destroyed...for example if u put sugar in water it dissolves and then u boil the water out and the sugar u had put in it is the only thing left

How can you tell if a physical reaction is occuring?

During a physical change the chemical molecule is not affected; physical changes are changes of phase or form.

Can a substance produced during a physical change easily change back?

Yes. Chemical changes are irreversible, but physical changes can easily be changed back

What are the differences betwen physical and chemical changes in terms of what happenes to molecules?

During a chemical change the molecule is transformed; during a physical change the molecule is not transformed.

What is a characteristic that best describes what happens during a physical change?

There are no chemical changes.

Is fashioning a table leg from a piece of wood chemical or physical changes?

Physical. Physical changes include things such as changing shape or color. Chemical changes change the chemical properties of a material, often during a chemical reaction.

What does not change when a substance changes matter?

During a physical change, the matter of what the substance is made out of doesn't change.

Is mixing cement a chemical or physical change?

Actually both physical and chemical changes are happening during cement mixing.

What are the characteristic of physical change?

Some common characteristics of physical changes are change in texture, change in shape, and change in state. There can also be a change in temperature and a change in color, but these are also common characteristics of chemical changes. A physical change does not change the composition of the original substance.

Is melting a phyical or chemical change?

Physical. Melting is always a physical change.

Which change takes place during the boiling water?

During boiling of water, water changes its state from liquid to gas due to a change in temperature. Therefore it is a physical change.

What happens to the characteristics of a substance during a physical change?

The change in characteristics is entirely dependent on how you have physically changed it. However most physical changes effect shape and size.
