Does mental disorder make you cruel?

For the vast majority of people that are termed mentally ill, they are usually on the receiving end of cruelty. Mental illnesses are much better understood, and there are many new drugs that help to aleviate many of the horrible symptoms they may experience. But there are still many steriotypes associated for the mentally ill to deal with. With advances in medical technology conditions such as depression are now understood to be caused by physical or chemical problems within the brain.

Personality disorders are an entirely different matter. Although the percentage is still small, personality disorders can make many insensitive to the feelings of others to the point of indifference to the rest of the human race. It can also make them cruel and for a few, even violent.
