Nope. The radar is only a confirmation of the officer's visual estimation.

Does an officer have to show you the radar gun in California?

All they have to prove is that it was within manufacturer's specifications and calibrated properly, so when stopped by police, they don't need to show you the radar gun, when you ask to see it. An officer does not, and more than likely, will not show you what speed you were going on there radar. That issue would come up in court.

Is a MN police officer required to show you your speed on the radar?

Since 2010, There are no states that require the officer to show the radar or laser results. Virginia used to have a law, but it has since been repealed. Some departments have policies that allow or require the officer to show you the results. Most states allow the officer to estimate your speed, and this is valid in a court of law.

You were given a ticket for speeding and upon asking to see the radar the officer states the speed was not locked in how can that prove you were going that speed?

If the speed was not locked in and the officer refused to show you the radar, take the ticket to court. Odds are in your favor that the judge will dismiss your ticket. That answer is incorrect. In no state is there a requirement that the officer show you the radar or even that he lock it in. The officer's testimony is sufficient for a conviction. In fact, in most states all an officer has to testify is that he visually observed you speeding and that is sufficient.

Can an office refuse to show you the speed on the radar gun if caught speeding in the state of GA?

There is no law that the officer must show you the laser gun. Radars are no longer in use in Georgia.

In Louisiana do the police have to show you the radar gun reading?

No, not on the scene. But if you go to court the officer will have to present certification as to their training to operate it, and the fact that was"calibrated."

Do the police have to show you the radar in Illinois?

Do the police have to show you the radar gun?

Each state has different rules governing radar. In Georgia, the officer must tell you that you a right to have him/her to re-check the radar for calibration but is does not state that he must allow you to see the test or the display with your speed on it. From a Georgia traffic lawyer: There is no law in Georgia that they must show you the laser/radar, however, there is some misinformation floating around where people believe there is. This is 100% not true, and if you go to court with this, the judge will not be impressed. The calibration law only applies to radars, which have been replaced with lasers in Georgia. However, under the calibration, the officer was required to calibrate the radar on request. Again, there was no requirement that they show you anything. If you made this demand, the officer would return to the patrol car, calibrate the laser, and then return to you and tell you it was calibrated. You'd still get your ticket.

Why do people think the officer has to show them the radar or laser when they are cited for speeding?

Because it's a widespread "urban legend" that it's required. The officer is required to display the most recent calibration for his equipment only when appearing in court to testify against you, but they are NOT required to show you anything about the equipment when you are stopped on the road.

If you want to see the speed on a radar gun after being charged with speeding are you allowed?

Most police officers I have met will show you the readings. As one officer stated, "It just shows the driver I have the proof".
