Why do only half of a carrier's gametes contain faulty cf gene?

only half of the carrier's gametes contain the cystic fibrosis gene because they only inherit one gene from either the mother or father, not both. For someone to have cystic fibrosis they must have inherited a faulty gene from each parent.

What are some symptoms of a pulmonary fibrosis?

Some symptoms of pulmonary fibrosis are cough, reduced physical endurance and difficulty when breathing. Lung transplantation is the only option of treatment for pulmonary fibrosis.

Is it true or false that cystic fibrosis is a transmittable disease in the lungs?

Cystic Fibrosis is not contagouse because it is a genetic dissorder (you can only have it if you have the genes that give people CF)

What is the probability of two healthy people where one is a carrier being parents to a child born with cystic fibrosis?

If only one person is a carrier of cystic fibrosis than there is no chance of having a child with it. Both parents have to be carriers and even then there is only a 25% chance. If only one carries than there is a 50% chance that their children will carry but will not have cystic fibrosis.

Why do only white people get cystic fibrosis?

Most white Europeans do not get cystic fibrosis. There is, however, a greater occurence of the recessive gene responsible for cystic fibrosis in Caucasians and Ashkanezi Jews than other races.

Can you get Cystic fibrosis?

Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease and can only be inherited through genes. It all depends on your parents alleles. Let's say that the allele for cystic fibrosis is c. If your Mum has the allele Cc it means she is hetrozygous. If you Dad has the same allele he is also hetrozygous. When they had children, the two small c's could come together to make a child with the alleles cc. (This means that the child has cystic fibrosis and has homozygous reccessive alleles.) When they had children their alleles could also come together to make CC (homozygous dominant- this means that person doesn't carry an allele for cystic firbrosis and will never get it. This means that if that person had children with another person who has the alleles CC, their child wouldn't get it), or it could make a child with Cc alleles. The child with Cc alleles wouldn't get cystic fibrosis because the allele big C (dominant allele) over powers the allele small c (reccessive- the cystic fibrosis allele). Although this person doesn't have cystic fibrosis their children might because they carry the allele for cystic fibrosis, which is c.

Does a double lung transplant cure cystic fibrosis?

Yes but unfortuently this only delays their death. It is possible that people with Cystic Fibrosis are unable to have a lung transplant. My friends mom had Cystic Fibrosis and moved to get a transplant but couldn't and was suffering couldn't live with it anymore, so she passed.

How did Elvis Presley get cystic fibrosis?

nobody "gets" CF - one is born with the condition - its a hereditary genetic illness that is not contagious. Elvis never had Cystic Fibrosis... the only CF he had was "Cool Flares" ;-)

Can an MRI differentiate between granulation tissue and fibrosis?

Usually it can because fibrosis will be dark on T1 and T2 weighted sequences (except in the liver). Granulation tissue is variable but not dark on both, and is vascularized, so it will enhace early after contrast administration. Fibrosis only enhances late after contrast administration.

What does cystic fibrosis have to do with heredity?

cystic fibrosis is hereditary but your children will only have a chance at having it if there are at least four children its a one in four kinda thing but they will need to get tested for being a carrier of the cf gene
