Yes! Mr. Richard Thomas is very much alive and has been very active in recent years and can often be seen in many productions including many Hallmark Hall of Fame features. In 1993 he was also a part of three Waltons Series reunion specials.Good genes have proven to be a blessing as Richard Thomas has maintained his boyish looks youthful voice and appears to have hardly aged since his days portraying John-Boy Walton. He can be heard most recently providing the voice over for the latest Prudential Insurance commercial.

No,very much alive;he merely retired from Moodies.Has gout I believe. He suffered from health problems for a number of years and found managing it difficult while on tour (the band have an extensive tour schedule). He had planned to retire on his sixtieth birthday and left the band on 31st December 2004. The only band member to have died, also in 2004, was original bassist Clint Warwck (born Albert Eccles).
Ray Thomas does not tour with the Moody Blues anymore because after 40 years on the road he had enough of touring. He had planned to retire at 55 but was persuaded by a band member not to do it. He didn't quit, get fired, or have a fall out with the band - it was just the right time for him. He now enjoys the the quiet life of fishing and gardening. Currantly tho, he is working with Bias Boshell on the re-release of his two solo albums. The cds will include a new song and a tribute song to Nicky James.
