XM Radio and Sirius - satellite radio, now Sirius XM
The channel differences between Sirius and XM satellite radio are mainly in sports, music and some news channels. Sirius offers NPR Now and NPR Talk and has an exclusive deal with NASCAR and the NFL. They also have deals with the NHL and the NBA. This company also tends to focus on music channels that are loaded with contemporary musical artists and they also offer a disco channel. On the other hand XM has a new agreement to run Major League Baseball games, usually concentrates on traditional musical selections and is the only one to have an acoustics channel.
As of 2012 there are four satellite radio receivers recognized by the International Telecommunications Union. There are two European systems, which are DAB (digital audio broadcasting) system and the DRM (Digital Radio Mondiale). Then there are the Japanese ISDB-T and the U.S. HD-Radio (IBOC).
You can only "get" XM radio on your "home radio" if you have a XM tuner and a paid subscription. The XM radio service is service satellite based and does not utilize the same system as FM or AM radio in your local area. You must have an XM receiver and an appropriate antenna in order to receive XM radio. There are a few "home radios" that contain an XM tuner and in those cases with a paid subscription, you could listen to XM radio in your home.
XM and Sirius are now the same company and they have no competition right now.
Well that is the big difference, you pay for satellite because you get more options and channels. There is versatilite to have satellite radio portability and locally. You can have it in your car and then bring it inside to your work Basically anywhere you can get a signal you can get the radio and the big kick about this from regular radio is you can get any channel anywhere. You can listen to a channel from across the states anywhere you are. They also have local repeaters that allow you to get a better signal even if you are in a major city or even in a tunnel. yes but you watch, that free radio that we get now will be gone soon enough because of this satilite radio the same thing just happened to tv's if you didnt have sat. or cable you could watch cbc or somethin on the news but now theyve cut all thoughs free channeles off
Pretty much. Sirius and XM used to be competing services.. now, they're one.
There are many improvements over radio already although many have not taken advantage of most. HD radio has been released that offers much better signal strength and audio quality than FM radio had. Satellite radio also has these benefits. More on HD radio, now that some receivers are linked to the internet people can use a new feature that lets you "tag" the song you may be listening to. Once you "tag" a song you can go to your Itunes program on your computer and see the songs you tagged, their names and information and then you can choose to download them for a small price.
