Tap water is not cleaner than bottled water. Some tap waters are better than others, depending upon where you live. There are two kinds of bottled water: filtered and distilled. If it does not say distilled, it is filtered. Really good tap water is just about as good as filtered water, while average or bad tap water is not as good as filtered water. Distilled water is cleaner than filtered water and it is the cleanest purest water that there is. (boricua94 improved answer)Also most water regardless is the same. It has no government regulations, In saying that if you really wanted to and had the materials to do this, you could simply find empty plastic bottles, put labels on them and fill them with water. You could make about $1.50 profit max.

tap water contains certain chemical, such as floride, that can affect the taste of the individuals water. This will not change the cleanliness of the water. Floride is used only as to promote good teeth. Other chemical such as chlorine can affect taste as well. These are filtered out in bottled water to have a cleaner finish. The waters are all relatively equivalent when it comes to cleanliness.

In the United States, tap water is held to stricter purity standards than bottled water. Also, it takes a lot of energy and water to transport bottled water, and the bottles are often thrown away instead of recycled. For that reason, in most circumstances, tap water is better than bottled water. You can buy an inexpensive reusable bottle to carry water with you.

It depends on the source of the water concerned.

Hard water has minerals such as calcium in it. Soft water has less minerals but is not the same as distilled water.

Spring Water is water derived from an underground formation from which water flows naturally to the surface of the earth. Spring water must be collected only at the spring or through a

borehole tapping the underground formation feeding the spring. Spring water collected with the use of an external force must be from the same underground stratum as the spring, must have all the physical properties before treatment, and must be of the same composition and quality as the water that flows naturally to the surface of the earth.

Purified Water is water that has been produced by distillation, deionization, reverse osmosis, or other suitable processes while meeting the definition of purified water in the United States Pharmacopoeia. Other suitable product names for bottled water treated by one of the above processes include "distilled water" if it is produced by distillation, "deionized water"Mineral water is distinguished from other types of bottled water by its constant level and relative proportions of mineral and trace elements at the point of emergence from the source. No minerals can be added to this product.

Sparkling Bottled Water is water that, after treatment and possible replacement with carbon dioxide, contains the same amount of carbon dioxide that it had as it emerged from the source. Sparkling bottled waters may be labeled as "sparkling drinking water," "sparkling mineral water,"

Artesian Water/Artesian Well Water is water from a well that taps a confined aquifer (a water-bearing underground layer of rock or sand) in which the water level stands at some height above the top of the aquifer.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hard Water contains Hard minerals such as calcium, magnesium, aluminum, iron, silica and the like.

Softened Water has been treated to remove or replace the hard minerals with soft minerals, such as carbonates, bicarbonates, sodium and potassium, among others.

Soft Water that is naturally soft has been treated in the natural water cycle.

Distilled Water is boiled and the steam condensed, this can contain some natural elements such as tannins, alcohols, amines and silica that boil off near or below 212 degrees F (100C).

Deionized Water is treated to replace the minerals with Hydrogen and Hydroxyl (-OH) ions, making it the closest to pure water you can get.

Diatomaceous Earth Filters, and Reverse Osmosis Filters, filter the water on the microscopic level leaving nearly pure water.

**Purified Water is a misnomer, there is no pure water as water will dissolve and hold in solution all manner of gases, liquids and solids as soon as it comes into contact with them.

Is bottle water better than tap water?

Depends on what company you're comparing tap water to. But most bottled water companies use filtered water (the same as tap water). In most cases bottled water is not purer than tap water. Note that tap water is not the same everywhere, not are all brands of bottled water the same. But legal requirements for water purity are the same for tap water as for bottled water. In some cases, bottled water actually is tap water, that has simply been taken from the tap and put into bottles.
