you can have anything from the 6 cyl. up to the 396 v8 in the 68 nova.
68 to 75 nova, the same body style will work.
i'm wondering the same thing i have an original 1973 nova ss hatchback 2- door post with a 4 speed, 350 v8, leather bucket seats, consul, and front disk brakes which is every option avalible in 73 plus it only has 50,000 original miles so i belive its pretty rare, i know in 74 they only made 6 of them with all the options.
most commonly either a 250 V6 or 350 V8, Although larger engines are often dropped in aftermarket

The 1977 Chevy Nova was available in several body styles, including a two-door coupe, four-door sedan, and a hatchback. It came in various trim levels, primarily the base model and the more upscale Nova Custom. Overall, there are essentially three main body styles, but variations in trims and options can lead to numerous configurations of the 1977 Nova.
