no only the z71 package comes with skid plates
Z71 is the Chevy "off road" package. The standard 4x4 doesnt come with as many options. agree with the first answer as Z71 is the GM code for "off road package." it basically includes bilstein shocks and skid plates, along with some trim features. The 4x4 Chevy is just what it says, only a 4WD. The Z71 on the other hand is a 4WD but it also comes factory with skid plates, improved bilstein shocks, different gearing in the differentials (smaller gears, and a locker), it has upgraded cabin air filters, and most Z71 models from 1997 and newer come with push button 4WD "on the fly".
To determine if your Chevy is a Z71 or a 4x4, check the badges on the vehicle. The Z71 package typically includes features like off-road suspension, skid plates, and all-terrain tires, while 4x4 simply indicates four-wheel drive capability. You can also look at the vehicle's specifications in the owner’s manual or check the build sheet for details on the specific packages installed. Additionally, the Z71 option is often included within the 4x4 lineup, so a Z71 model will always be 4x4, but not all 4x4 models are Z71.
The 4X4 version does, but they are light duty and realy there to protect wiring and delicate stuff from grass and branches, not actually support the truck.
Z-71 has different shocks and a couple more skid plates over the standard Chev 4 x4.
Take a regular 4x4 Silverado, add skid plates, Bilstein shocks, and Z71 badging, and you have a Z71 Silverado.
It's located on the right side of the engine, and easy to get to from underneath. If it is a 4x4 it will be a messy job because of the skid plates.
No it did not, Automitac only
It is a RPO code for GM full size 4x4 trucks, which usually include stripes and decals, beefier suspension parts, skid plates, larger tires/rims, etc.
