Albania, Kosovo and Bosnia are also planning to join the EU (though they haven't formally applied yet), and they are all majority Muslim countries.
The objections to Turkey joining are to do with how democratic it is and its Human Rights record. Article 301 of the Turkish Penal code makes it illegal to insult Turkey, the Turkish ethnicity, or Turkish government institutions.
Turkey's support of Northern Cyprus in the Cyprus dispute is also a problem.
