There is one way but it only works for the Kindle Fire, not the Kindle Fire HD. I have been trying for many hours to find out but sadly, no you can't. And even if you do have the Kindle Fire(not HD) you have to root it and download an app. I am still trying to find out, if I do I will get the word out.

The kindle fire HD is good for rreading and amazon apps. But for the price I would just get an android tablet and download the kindle reading app.
The camera on your Kindle Fire HD is not compatible with the ooVoo app, which is why it won't work. as of July 2013, there aren't any plans to make a compatible app.

It depends on what your preferences are. If you want an ecosystem that is very much focused into Amazon, then the Kindle Fire HD is a good fit. If you want an ecosytem that can utilize Kindle too, but is more open, has a large app library (Google Play), not to mention the various Google services (something that you have little to no access on a Kindle Fire HD), then the Nexus 7 is for you.
