What would your world today be like without the Panama Canal?

The Panama Canal was predicted to become a strategic center of the most vital importance, and Roosevelt agreed to its creation. The idea of The Panama Canal first came from France, to build the Suez Canal in 1869. In order to get from one place to another people used to go down south on the Atlantic Ocean. Then they would turn and go north, passing Brazil and Ecuador. Finally, they arrive at San Francisco. This trip would take a very long time, so it was decided to make a canal through panama. The U.S and England contributed to the construction of the Panama Canal. Time and mileage would be reduced when travelling from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean. Building a canal through Panama would save tons of money and effort. A canal through Panama would also help trade and industry. The canal made trading much more efficient. Before the Panama Canal was built, traders from Europe that traveled by sea had to go down the coast of South America and around the Southernmost tip of the North American continent in order to get to places on the west coast of North and South America. This was a very dangerous trip because the water around the most southern bit of the North American continent has very still water and is full of icebergs, making it hard to travel. Once the Panama Canal was created, the traders could easily go straight through without having to go down and around the whole continent. The canal also saved travelers about three months of traveling.
