the xbox doesnt need high definition although it is recommended you can still play in standard definition just that the picture on the screen wont be high resolution but will still look just right you wont see a lot of things such as refection or small details for characters.
if your talking about hard drive then the xbox will defiantly need one if you don't have one then you will have a hard time using your Xbox but you can still use USBs but there best to use for back up saves for your games
