I have a answer regarding this if you can bear with the story;

Before I joined, I was being treated for AD/HD during school and was prescribed Adderall. I stopped taking it around near the end of high school. When I joined, I had to provide supporting documents from my doctor stating that I was no longer being treated for AD/HD. A few years down the road during my enlistment, I had seen a psychiatrist after seeing a psychologist and undergoing a series of tests. He prescribed me Adderall once again and informed me that the military is allowing exceptions to the AD/HD treatment rules. However, he was not aware that the USCG was the only branch of military service that does not allow stimulant medication for AD/HD treatment. It was brought to my attention by an O-6 physician's assistant that the USCG's medical doctrine states in very black and white instruction that if a member is required stimulant medication for AD/HD treatment, they are disqualified from joining or will undergo a medical board for discharge if they're already in service.

Luckily, it was swept under the rug by the psychiatrist, but now I can't bring up my AD/HD issues unless I want to face being discharged. This also means no more Adderall treatment.

Long story short; The USCG's very strict and cut and dry policy is if you require stimulant AD/HD medication(Adderall, Dexedrine or any amphetamine) to function normally, this will disqualify you from joining, or face you with a medical discharge if you're already a member.

It's extremely unfortunate :(
