Yes they actually work, they are most commonly dropped in rural areas from midnight until three in the morning depending on the continent.
But sadly the show did over exaggerate a little bit because you can only write three names per day and only three days out of the week.
But if theres a couple people bothering you there legal in some countries and if not it won't be easy to get caught.

∙ 13y agoWell, If You Go On Ebay Or If You Go To An Anime Convention, You Can Get An Exact Replica Of The Death Note Used In The Series, With the Rules And A Good Bit Of Pages To Write Names in. Of Course, The Note Doesn't Work (For All We Know). So Yes, There Is a Death Note You Can Buy, But, There Is No REAL Death Note.
