Yes, If You Have a Micro SIMI was in touch with a representative of the Vodacom Page on Facebook - Vodacom was the first cellular network in South Africa - and was told the following:

"An iPad does work, but you need to buy a micro SIM. The recommended retail price is R105 (this is a one-off fee, with no additional monthly payment)."

According to the Vodacom website:

The Apple iPad makes use of a Micro SIM for 3G connectivity. The SIM card is available at Vodashops. The Micro SIM is a 64K SIM card and has the same specifications as a standard 64K SIM card - only difference is size.
