Yes the iPhone uses sim cards. Depending on the iPhone you want to put your sim in. If its the original - the 3gs yes but the iPhone 4 or 4s not. Side note, you may not get all services because you need to add a data plan.

I know because I thought I could do that, so I went out and bought an iPhone clone and had to trade it for the real thing. If you think you are saving money by getting the clone, don't it is just going to be a waste of time. I highly recommend just getting the iPhone. That is my opinion and I was extremely disappointed when I found out you couldn't get the apps.
