Yes the guitar controller for Rock Band will work on Guitar Hero World Tour. Rock Band drums and microphone also work on Guitar Hero World Tour.
there have actually been 5 guitar hero games they are: guitar hero 1 guitar hero 2 guitar hero encore, rock the 80's guitar hero 3 legends of rock guitar hero aerosmith and the new one coming out october 26 2008 is: guitar hero world tour. wich is supposed to be like rock band, you have drums, a microphone bass, and guitar. and there have been rumors than you can create a song and character. its gonna be awesome!
Guitar Hero World Tour is Guitar Hero 4.
Yes, the original guitar works for all of the new releases (so far) including rock band. But, the world tour edition is much sleeker, with the joystick closer to where your hand should be, and a star power button.

Just like any guitar hero for the ps2, (as far as i know,) there are still 4, and they are still: Easy, which uses only 3 out of 4 fret buttons. Medium, which is a little faster uses all 4 fret buttons. Hard which is even a tiny faster than medium uses all 4 fret buttons. And finally Expert which is the fastest of all 3, uses all 4 frets, and is essential for guitar hero pros and ones with great skill. Hope this helped! :)
