Yes, the pancreas does produce insulin. It is used to turn glucose into glycogen when there is either to much glucose in the blood or there are leftovers from what the body needs after a meal is eaten. The stored glycogen is then turned back into glucose when one's blood sugar is low.

I like to remember them alphabetically. Alpha cells are first alphabetically and so is glucagon. Beta cells are second alphabetically and so is insulin.
