Yes. It takes more time for hot water to freeze - the cooling process takes longer when you start from a higher temperature.

Different liquids freeze at different temperatures.

It depends how cold the place where you're putting the boiling water is, how much boiling water there is, etc.

I think that each liquid has a specific temperature at which it freezes - it may not be associated with thickness.

Yes, but NOT the freezing POINT. The freezing point of water will always stay the same. But, the freezing TIME of water is constantly alternating between all temperatures. For example, you have 2 cups of water. One is 76 degrees Fahrenheit, and the other 45 degrees Fahrenheit. Say you put both of these cups of water in your freezer. You also rig a video camera on the freezer door zoomed in to watch both cups of water. you would see the cup of 45 degree F water freezing faster because on a thermometer, it was closest to the freezing point than the other cup. So, the answer is yes. That's why scientists don't have an exact freezing time of water. - or any other liquid.

Yes; in order to go through the phase transformation from water to ice, the water must give up energy to the environment. This physical change happens at 0 degC, or 32 degF, and the water molecules, weather liquid or solid, will be at 0 degC during the change. If the water starts at 15 degC, it will need to cool to 0 degC before freezing. If it starts at 3 degC, in the same environment, it will still take time to reach 0 degC, but not nearly as long as it would with the 15 degC water.

Yes. If the starting tempetature is 1 degrees C, then it will be quicker than if the tempertaure of the water was 100 degrees C.

At what temperature does hot water start to freeze?

0 degrees CelsiusWater begins to freeze at 32 degrees Fahrenheit, or as stated 0 degrees Celsius. Hot water will take longer to freeze than cold water since the water will take time to cool to the proper freezing temperature. The freezing point does not change, however; water will have to be cold before it finally freezes.

How cold is a glass of ice water?

A mixture of ice and water will always have a temperature of exactly 0°C (32°F). Whether it is ice melting or water freezing, the temperature stays at that temperature until all of the water is frozen or all of the ice is molten. As soon as it is only water or only ice it can start to become warmer or colder respectively. The temperature of water with ice cubes will be 0 degrees Celsius under normal conditions. The ice cubes will cool the water down the its freezing point, at which time there will be an equilibrium between liquid water an ice. Of course, ice cubes chilled by extraordinary means (ie liquid nitrogen) may very well freeze the water solid.

What is the coldest temperature in bc ever?

The coldest time ever in BC. was the Ice Age, where it sometimes was below freezing to death.

What is the definition of freezing rain?

Freezing rain is caused when you have a precipitating cloud deck with a mass of warm air below it and then a thin mass of freezing air near the ground. When the precipitation falls from the cloud, it will generally be snow. As it encounters the warm air, it melts into the usual water droplets of rain. But right before it reaches the ground, it enters the layer of below-freezing air and quickly turns into super-cooled water droplets. On landing on any freezing object, it instantly turns into a layer of ice. That can turn streets into skating rinks in no time!It falls as a liquid, but when it hits the ground it freezes.

How long does it take water to freeze at 0 degrees celsius?

Water freezes AT 0oC. As each molecule reaches this temperature, it adapts properties of a solid. Depending on how much water there is, whether it's moving or not and various other factors determines how long it will take for all the molecules to reach 0 and turn into solid ice.

Which water freezes first boiling water cold water or room temperature.?

Cold water would freeze the fastest because freezing is a physical change brought on by temperature change, and the temperature of cold water is closer to freezing temperature than boiling or room temperature water. Therefore, it would take less time to reach freezing temperature.

How does less water freeze faster?

There's less water, it takes less time for all if it to reach freezing temperature.

Does warm water freeze faster thatn cool water?

The starting temperature will certainly affect the time it takes for water to freeze. By definition, the temperature will be the same for both the water that started warm as it is for the water that started cool when they both freeze. The time difference comes from going from warm (~85 degrees) to freezing (32 degrees) and from cool (~50 degrees) to freezing (32 degrees).

What does controlling variables mean in science?

When you are performing an experiment, you want to change only one variable at a time. Let us say that you would like to know how different temperature affect the speed at which mushrooms grow. If you only alter the temperature then the interpretation of the experimental results will be clear. If you alter the temperature and also alter the amount of water (for example) then the interpretation of the results will no longer be clear, since the results might have been caused by the temperature, or by the water, or even by the combined effect of the temperature and water. Therefore, you control your variables.

Does solute effect the freezing point of water?

the temperature at which the solution freezes is lowered.

What is the freezing point of the moon?

Each substance ... like water, plastic, steel, oxygen ... has its own characteristics of freezing temperature and pressure. It doesn't matter where it's located at the time. Just set it up at the right temperature and pressure and it'll freeze.

Does adding vinegar to water affect its freezing time?

Yes because it is no longer water so will have a different freezing time or point

Why does it take time for water to come out after the faucet has been turned on or toilet flushed once the weather gets colder?

If it is at freezing temperature, then you have an issue with uninsulated pipes.

What is a freezing point?

Well, If you are talking about the state of freezing point that would mean the exact temperature that a liquid freezes. Although I am not sure of the exact temperature :-) The exact time that a substance turns into a solid.

Which type of water freezes first fresh or salt water?

Fresh water freezes at a higher temperature than Salt water. So Fresh Water doesn't have to lose as much heat in a given amount of time in order to Freeze.

What is a melting point A freezing point?

melting point is the temperature it has to be to melt. Freezing point is the temperature it freezesThe melting point is the temperature above whichsomething will melt or be in a liquid state. The freezing point is the temperature below whichsomething will be in a frozen or solid state. The actual melting point, which is also the freezing point, is the temperature at which matter can exist as either a solid or a liquid at the same time and can change from one to another until its temperature goes up or goes down.

Why does a mixture of heated sugar and water become solid when left in a freezing tray after 10 minutes?

Water, with or without sugar, becomes a solid (known as ice) when it freezes. The exact amount of time depends upon the amount of water, the temperature of the water, and the temperature of the freezer that you are using. It won't always be 10 minutes.
