the sun gives warmth to the earth. as it shines upon the surface of the ocean, it makes it warmer. oceans are really large masses of water so the temperature of the water doesnt change drastically but the surface of ocean waters is normally warmer in the scorching heat of the summer than the freezing cold of the winter
