I got one from my Jeep dealer today - just walked in and pretended to want to buy a drain tube and the dude did not know about what part it was so he went off and printed out 3 pages of explosion diagrams. I am in Australia.

What does an automobile vacuum canister do?

It acts as a reservoir to maintain a vacuum supply to the HVAC (heating, ventilation, air conditioning) system while the vehicle is under acceleration. Main function of canister is to supply a constant source of vacuum for the power brake booster. The canister should store enough vacuum to allow the brake pedal to have power assist for 2 brake applications in case the vehicle engine stalls

At what temperature should you keep your downstairs air to help cool the upstairs or does the downstairs air temperature have any effect on the upstairs if you have two central units?

I have two separate systems, one up and one down. The downstairs unit does nothing to cool the upstairs. It is probably because cold (heavy) air sinks and hot (light) air rises. To have any effect on the upstairs, you would need a very well insulated house with few windows, and you would have to make it extremely cool downstairs. Inversely, you can use your upstairs system to help cool your downstairs, for the reasons explained above. Since hot air rises, your upstairs system has a larger cooling capacity than your downstairs unit to take care of the larger demand.

Why does water from upstairs clothes washer when it drains flow into downstairs bathtub?

What is the best way to set the thermostats for each of 2 furnaces for a 2 story home. I have a furnace and air conditioning system for the upstairs and a second system for the downstairs?

There is no hard and fast rule for this since all houses, systems, thermostat locations and comfort levels are different. Experiment and go with what makes everybody happy most of the time.

Can you flush the upstairs toilet when you have the downstairs toilet off and capped off?

If your plumbing system is properly installed there should not be any problem. If it isn't installed properly, you would already have water from sinks and bathtubs backing up out of the downstairs toilet.

Can a small air conditioner cool a small townhouse.?

Since the home is two story a small indoor air conditioner will not be able to cool the whole house by itself. To get this home to be cool you will need to use a A/C system both upstairs and downstairs.

When are portable commodes are used?

A portable commode is often used when a patient is sleeping downstairs, and can not get to the upstairs toilet (which may be the only toilet in the home). Usually, the commode is designed to look like a piece of furniture. If the patient recovers and can use the upstairs toilet once more, the commode can be put away. Being portable, the commode's bowl can be carried upstairs and the contents disposed of down the toilet and into the sewerage system. Portable commodes, chemical toilets, and such like, are often used when camping, or caravanning, or if the house is not connected to the sewerage system.

Why would an upstairs toilet drain into a downstairs sink?

Answer The waste line from the downstairs toilet is not vented (or not vented properly, or the vent is plugged up). Flushing the upstairs toilet creates a vacuum in the main line which sucks the water out of the one downstairs. Answer your waste lines for both toilets may be on the same branch off the sewer main. Either you have a stoppage in the branch line or you have a stoppage in the main line. (If it's the main line your downstairs toilet would have to be the lowest fixture, ie If you have a floor drain downstairs and it's a stoppage in your main line it would backup through the floor drain. If there is no floor drain the toilet downstairs is probably your lowest fixture.) Your best bet is to snake out the system through the toilet downstairs.

Where does upstairs sink water and shower water drain to?

There is a main drain that runs from the basement through the roof where it is the vent for the system. If you look at the layout of the house, the upstairs bath is most likely over the downstairs one or the kitchen. If you look on the roof, you will see a 4 inch pipe coming through the roof that should be over the upstairs bath. The sink and shower drain into that and then to the basement and out of the house. Most likely the main stack is in the wall behind the toilet.
