It's now 06/2013 and I have a tube of 1% tolnaftate that is dated 11/2009 exp. date. I have used it several days in a row on what appears to be a ringworm near my underarm. I have not noticed it getting better yet. In fact it seems to be getting worse.
I've used it before on ringworm and you can see it working right away usually in a day or two. Long story short. I'm going to spend the few bucks to get a new tube.
I think that tolnaftate is one of the more recommended treatments for a fungal infection in the ear, even if there is an eardrum perforation. Now, I'm not sure what the tolnaftate solution you are inquiring about is suspended in, which might make a difference in regards to any pain that one would have on application, particularly if there is an eardrum perforation. I have obtained this solution from a compounding pharmacy, to make sure it can be tolerated without pain, and it was pricey but worked very well.
