Is triamcinolone all right to use on a hand fungus?
Triamcinolone (Triamcinolone acetonide) won't do any harm, and may help relieve the redness, swelling, and itching -- but it's a steroid, not a fungicide, so it won't do anything to the fungus itself. There is an ointment called Mycolog-II that combines triamcinolone with the antifungal, Nystatin, that evidently works better than Nystatin alone in the treatment of candidiasis. Remember that Triamcinolone acetonide is absorbed through the skin, and has systemic effects -- so it should not be used over a large area or for prolonged periods.

I spilled boiling water all down my left arm and put multiple ointments on it (Lidocaine, Burn Cream, etc.) but the only thing that made it feel better was some leftover prescription triamcinolone acetonide. It allowed me to not only sleep with the burn, but also added some flexibility to the burnt skin on my arm and hand, allowing me some more motion and dexterity. I don't know about it from a clinical perspective, but from experience, it works. And why not try? Triamcinolone acetonide has a very slight risk of any side effects. Its a type of synthetic steroid almost identical to Cortizone (Hydrocortizone lotion) so its almost certainly going to reduce swelling and reduce recovery time.

I was prescribed triamcinolone acetonide to use WITH an over the counter anti fungal cream (like clotrimazole) to cure my athlete's foot. I was getting severe, scarring fungal infections that the anti fungal creams would not cure. The Triamcinolone stops the itching and burning, as well as the swelling which allowed the anti fungal cream to work much more effectively and quicker.
