Trip hop is a genre which takes many influences from electronic, jazz and hip hop music. Depending on the particular trip hop artist, it may require musicians for performance or may not. For example, Portishead have a more acoustic sound that draws more from jazz than hip hop or electronic music, and so definitely need musicians for live performances. Tricky on the other hands draws mostly from electronic and hip hop, and so can perform live with one person providing the backing.
Trip hop was created in 1994.
