Older diesel tuning chips and external diesel tuning boxes used a simple resistor to fool then engine into increasing fuel/air mix and/or fuel pressure. It was possible for them to damage the engine, but creating poor idling and smoke was more likely.
Modern diesel tuning boxes and tuning chips are much more sophisticated, adjusting multiple parameters and varying by revs and load, so are much less likely to cause problems once set correctly.
The only issues now seen is highlighting a pre-existing weakness. The increased power output puts added power through the transmission, and increased pressures can blow seals that were in poor condition.
Modern Diesel engines that use Common Rail Injection, Pumpe Duse or Variable Pressure systems can all be tuned by tuning chips or external tuning boxes. Older diesel engines can have a more basic level or tuning chip applied that just increases pressure, but these can cause issues with poor idling and smoking.
Re-build your diesel. Put on a custom chip and that will make up for engine power loss.
Chip tuning is done to update or change the software on a vehicle's electronic control unit. While chip tuning originally meant swapping one chip for another out of an engine's computer, it is now all done electronically and the term chip tuning actually refers to a software update applied to the car's computer. This allows the car manufacturer to quickly apply model specific changes to a vehicle and encompasses a wide variety of issues that may effect the performance of a vehicle.
Lumpy acceleration is often the case with diesel engines. If you own a newer Mercedes, you could check with different Mercedes tuning companies. What you need is a chip or powerbox, which will electronically adjust your engine in such a way that your engines power and torque goes up (through optimized engine computer), and your miles a gallon might also go up. I estimate that a power increase of about 10 to 30 horsepowers is possible. You can check out different Mercedes tuners, for example Brabus or Lorinser. If you own an older model, you can still search for a chip on the internet. If you can't find anything, an individual chip tuning might be possible through analysing your engine by a tuner. However, I'm not sure if the second suggestion is a realistic one.
Lack of oil Overheating or lack of water Poor quality fuel Water ingestion into the intake Poor or no air filtration Overfueling with a power chip These are the big ones. But the possibilities are endless.
Hondata is an American company offering chip tuning for Honda vehicles to improve their power. They also do engine swapping and reprogramming ECUs (engine control units).
if it has a gas engine such as a 5.2 or 5.9 or a V10 then yes.if it has the cummins turbo diesel no you cant chip a cummins unless it is a 1998.5 year model or later
it can be but is not going to help with performance. depending what sort of diesel engine you have, depends on what you can do to improve performance a good diesel mechanic can turn up the fuel pump, change injectors etc. vehicles with computers can have chip added that vastly improves performance and is easiest way to go
Most experts agree that for most car engines the cheap stuff will work just fine. The only thing that can cause the cheap stuff to cause damage is either 1) a high performance aftermarket engine or 2) 'tuning' your engine via a chip or Predator-type system.
You have to get a new ECU chip. Superchips tuning also has a package to "roll your own" if home tuning is you thing.
A reputable and properly configured chip tuning system or external tuning box will have no detrimental effects on the vehicle or engine, as the tuning is applied only within the engines parameters. Power will be increased, and generally MPG stays the same or improves. The increased performance will cause higher wear on items like brakes, tyres and clutches, depending on how the extra power is used. Some purchasers can be put off buying a chipped vehicle, although most can be reverted to standard, or the external tuning box removed, if required. It may lead to increased insurance costs, and should be declared to ensure the insurance is valid.
