Waist comes first. So a 34x36 pant size would have a 34inch waist and a 36 inch inseam.
Interval. Shoes sizes can be ordered, and can form differences.
Typically measurements are continuous variables so a shoe size is a continuous variable since it can be expanded to be more precise. You can generally say that a person wears a size 8 but 7.9 or 7.934567 is more precise, even though US shoe sizes only come in whole or half sizes, you still can be more and more precise in your foot measurement or actual shoe size.

They came in different sizes, but the radius of the wheel had to be less than the inseam measurement of the rider.
Men's jeans sizes are waist x inseam (ex. 32 x 34). The 32 is the waist measurement and the 34 is the inseam measurement. Much simpler and easier to get the size you want. I love buying men's jeans since I'm built pretty straight and I love being able to buy the right length jeans.
Unlike women’s sizing that is offered via a single number, men’s clothing often depends on multiple measurements to fit appropriately. Like women’s clothing, men’s sizes come in different types, including short, regular and tall. Short is considered to be 5’4” to 5’7”; Regular is 5’7.5” to 5’11”; and Tall is 5’11.5” and up. Just like with women’s clothing, size charts differ from merchant to merchant, so it’s best to consult the individual merchant’s size chart before you buy. Men’s pants require measuring a couple of different sizes. The first size to consider is inseam size. Men need to be wearing shoes during this measurement. To determine the correct inseam size, measure from the crotch to where you want the pants to end, breaking at the top of the shoe in the front and just above the heel in the back. Some men buy pants in different inseam lengths to match tennis shoes, dress shoes or boots. Waist size is measured by keeping the tape measure somewhat loose, or by putting your finger between the tape measure and your body, and then measuring around the area where you normally wear your pants. This area should be the smallest part of the natural waist. For men, pants sizes are equal to their waist sizes. While it used to be normal for men to wear their pants up to their belly buttons, that style has changed, and men don’t usually wear them that high anymore. Hip size is sometimes needed when having tailored pants. This can be best measured around the fullest part of the hips, while standing with legs about six inches apart. Suit pants take a somewhat different strategy. Suits come with pants that are six inches smaller up to suit size 46 and five inches smaller for suit sizes 48 and up. For example, a suit size 44 jacket comes with 38” waist pants. Tailored pants require two additional measurements, depending on whether they’re being made to flare out or tailor in. A thigh measurement is needed to measure the circumference around the thigh and a cuff dimension measures the circumference of the cuffs.
When purchasing yoga pants, you will see size choices such as small, medium, large, and extra large. Small pants are for women who wear sizes 0-6, medium for sizes 8-10, large for sizes 12-14, and extra large for sizes 16-20. If you see XXL, that is for sizes 20+.
Men's jeans sizes are much easier than women's. You just measure your waist and your inseam. For example, a men's 34x32 is a 34" waist and a 32" inseam.

Many men make the mistake all the time of buying the wrong men’s pants for different reasons. They go ahead and purchase the pair of pants even though they plainly don’t fit, they’re not their style, they’re too expensive, etc. Instead of continuing to buy the wrong pair of pants that simply weren’t made for you, take the following advice and begin shopping with knowledge and power. You’ll begin to love your wardrobe, and you’ll make better buying decisions in the future. The first thing to check is the fit. It happens a lot of times that men buy men’s pants that are much too baggy or tight. It could be for fashion reasons, but the wrong size will never look right, regardless of the trends. You should always measure your waist and inseam to find the exact sizes you need. Some men simply measure their waist while neglecting the inseam measurement because it’s not that important. Of course, the inseam measurement is important because without it, you could be purchasing men’s pants that will drag on the ground or get caught under your heels and become ruined very quickly. In addition to buying the right inseam size, there are a certain points of style that you must pay attention to. For example, if a person looking at you can see your socks while you’re standing, this is not a good sign, and you should try looking for another pair. If you’re buying dress pants, this could end up looking completely unprofessional. Another thing that you should pay attention to is the comfort of the men’s pants. If they are too tight in a certain area or if they are physically hurting you, you should immediately find a different size. You’ll have to wear them for a long period of time, so you want to feel great in your pants. Buying color is also important when it comes to buying men’s pants. Consider the articles of clothing or accessories you’ll be wearing with your new pants. Will anything match them? Will they be hard to accessorize with? If you find that they’ll be a troublesome pair, go ahead and put them back. Of course, they might be a great pair of pants or on sale, but you want them to flow evenly with other clothes, or else they’ll just look out of place.
That would be size 42 in Italian sizes
I would look at wikipedia for the sizes on shirts: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/US_standard_clothing_size#Men I can't tell you on pant sizes though. Also its interesting because using calculators like the one here: http://www.fitnessandfreebies.com/fitness/4men.html the sizes are all wrong for me. I have a very skinny waist, long legs and big hips. So I would say its going to depend on the person and you will have outliers. The average inseam I have seen on pants is 32' though.
