Waitangi Day, like ANZAC Day on the 25th of April, lies where it falls. This means it is only a public holiday for you if you would normally work on this day. If you never work weekends, it's not a public holiday for you.

If you do work any part of a public holiday, you must be paid at one and a half times your normal pay for working that time. You must also be provided with an alternative holiday.

If you would normally work but don't because it is a public holiday, you get paid your normal day's pay.
