No. Not only is the Earth's rotation too weak to affect the direction of water flowing in a drain, tests you can easily perform in a few washrooms will show that water whirlpools both ways depending on the sink's structure, not the hemisphere.

Which way does water go down a drain?

Contrary to popular belief, the water is not affected by the motion of the Earth, or by which hemisphere the bowl is in.Water drains in a downward direction. How water goes down the plughole is determined by the state of the water when the plug is pulled, the construction of the bowl, and the shape and size of the plughole. It doesn't always go the same way. The vortex direction is dependent on small local factors, and the slightest impulse (motion, temperature) makes it unpredictably random. On a larger scale, the airflow into cyclones in the Northern Hemisphere is counter-clockwise, and in the Southern hemisphere clockwise. So if the Coriolis effect were the dominant factor, that would be the direction of the draining.

Why does the commode water swirl around counter clockwise in Australia?

I doubt water swirls in a different direction in Australia than in any other place. If it does it's caused by how the commodes are manufactured. The jets that deliver the flush water determine which way the water swirls.Answer:There is commonly held factoid ("sounds real but isn't" fact) that due to the Coriolis force water entering drains in the Northern Hemisphere swirls in the opposite direction to water in the Southern Hemisphere (just like hurricanes and cyclones are supposed to). Science has disproved this, indicating that the minor irregularities in the opening far outweigh the effect of the Coriolis force. The main cause of the water swirl (especially in toilets) is due to the design of the bowl itself.

How do water puddles disappear?

Some of the water evaporates, and some of it drains away through the soil.

When swimming you push the water backwards this is the action what is the reaction?

The reaction to pushing the water backwards would be the projected motion of your own body forward.

What is the coralis effect?

Coriolis effectHurricane Andrew hurtles northwest over the Florida coastline in August 1992, its spiral shape evident in this infrared satellite photo. Like water draining through an outlet, hurricanes spin clockwise in the northern hemisphere and anticlockwise in the southern - a manifestation of the Coriolis effect.Effect of the Earth's rotation on the atmosphere, oceans, and theoretically all objects moving over the Earth's surface. In the northern hemisphere it causes moving objects and currents to be deflected to the right; in the southern hemisphere it causes deflection to the left. The effect is named after its discoverer, French mathematician Gaspard de Coriolis (1792-1843).

If water drains counterclockwise in the northern hemisphere and clockwise in the southern hemisphere what happens if one is exactly on the equator which direction would it go?

It drains straight... no spinning. I was recently at the equator in Kenya and they had a demo to show this. It was quite intriguing to witness!

What has more water the norther hemisphere or the southern hemisphere?

Southern Hemisphere

What has more water the northern or southern hemisphere?

The Southern Hemisphere has more water compared to the Northern Hemisphere, with around 80% of the Earth's water resources being located in the Southern Hemisphere due to its larger oceans like the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans.

What hemisphere has more water northern or southern?

the southern hemisphere has more water

Is there more water in northern or southern hemisphere?

The Southern Hemisphere has more area of water then the Northern Hemisphere.

Which hemisphere has more water notern or southern?

The southern hemisphere has more water than the northern hemisphere.

Which hemisphere has more water southern or northern?

The Southern Hemisphere contains the most water

Which hemisphere is known as the water hemisphere?

The Southern Hemisphere is known as the water hemisphere because it contains more water mass and has the largest oceanic area compared to the Northern Hemisphere.

Which hemisphere has more water the southern or the northern?

Southern hemisphere has less land and more water

What hemisphere has more water the South or North hemisphere?

The southern hemisphere has more water! :)The southern hemisphere has water on 81% of its surface and the northern hemisphere has water on only 61% of its surface. The southern hemisphere has more water than the northern hemisphere because the northern hemisphere has the continent of Asia in it which takes up a lot of space.

Why is the southern hemisphere the water hemisphere?

The southern hemisphere is often referred to as the "water hemisphere" because it has more water surface area compared to landmasses, with large bodies of water like the Pacific, Indian, and Southern oceans dominating this region. Additionally, the southern hemisphere experiences more rain and has a higher percentage of ocean coverage compared to the northern hemisphere, contributing to its association with water.

Why the southern hemisphere called water hemisphere?

Because - there is more of the Earth's surface covered by water, than by land in the Southern hemisphere.
