Better for what? That is like saying "which is better a car or a boat". They are two toatally different exercises that focus on different parts of the body.

Sit ups are primarily a stregth/endurence exercise of mainly the abdominals (esp. the rectus abdominis)

Push ups are a stregth/endurence exercise focusing on the upper body (esp. the chest, shoulders and triceps)

I personally think that sit ups work better because it is working more muscles than crunches. OMG i am so happy i answered a question :] <3

I believe that sit-ups are a lot harder on your back, neck, joints etc. Also doing a sit up uses muscles that do not do any good for your abs.

I am an AVID weight lifter, and I read up a lot on exercises, study diet plans, etc. Both push-ups and sit-ups are good for your body. I actually prefer GOOD crunches, rather than sit-ups, because sit-ups waste energy. You also have to remember that when it comes to exercise, push-ups and sit-ups work different muscles.

Sit-ups obviously work the abs, and Push-ups work the biceps, triceps, pectoral muscles, and the deltoids. If I were you, I would do both, but I would also consider doing GOOD crunches instead, do like 150-300 if you are in good shape, if you're just starting a new workout plan, then do 50-100. I hope this helped.

Well, it really depends on what your working on. Like for upper arm strength, push ups are perfect. And crunches are really good for your stomach and abs.

You should do some jumping jacks before stretching.

But it doesn't matter how you start working out by means of "push ups vs sit ups".
