IMPROVED ANSWER- If the swelling doesn't go down, but instead gets worse, what could happen is the tongue will swallow the barbells at the end of the piercing. This could require surgery to fix (don't worry, it's not life threatening). If you notice the swelling does not go down, ask a professional for treatment advice. It is very unlikely you will end up choking on your own tongue.
Definitely, for the first three day after i got my tongue done it swelled bad, then it went down lots but not completely. All in all it will take a week too get back too its regular size.

Yes contrary to what some people will say the tongue always swells to some extent after a piercing. You are cutting connective tissue between two muscle complexes, swelling is going to occur it may not be the next day but you can count on it happening. Follow the written aftercare you are provided by your professional body piercer, ask questions before the piercing not after, know what you need to have and use for swelling control and how you diet will change for the short term (3~5 days).
About two weeks, the swelling goes down every day but on average the swelling is down quite a bit by two weeks time.
