Public speaking was challenging for Dr. Seuss. He sold a lot of war bonds in World War I. He was with a group of 9 other boys and Teddy Roosevelt was one medal short. He yelled at the young Theodore Geisel. This bothered Dr. Seuss for the rest of his life.
Dr. Seuss had a fear of public speaking. It happened because he was to get an award for selling war bonds by FDR and there was not enough medals. The other nine boys got the awards and FDR was embarrassed and yelled at Dr. Seuss.
