In interphase, you can't see the chromatin/chromosomes/etc. You can only see the nuclear envelope and nucleolus, which both disappear during mitosis.

Before mitosis and meiosis, DNA is loose in the form of chromatin, then it coils into chromosomes right before the mitosis and meiosis.
