The Reign of Terror began at the start of the French Revolution. The revolutionary government rounded up and tried and executed King Louis XVI and his family. In addition, many other aristocrats and resistors were also arrested, persecuted and executed during the reign of terror.
Robespierre, was a French independence advocate. He was a scholar and led the French rebels to revolt. Robespierre and his associates also published pamphlets leading the French to revolt. He was also a leader of the Jacobian society. During the revolution, Robespierre started the Reign of Terror and frightened the French people with death. Soon after he was tried for treason and sentenced to death by guillotine. Before the could execute him however, he tried to end his own life by shooting himself in the head. He failed and instead shot his jaw off. The next day they killed him.
Some escaped with their lives, but many were chargd as anti-revolutionists, tried and executed within 24 hours. Many of their executioners faced the same fate during the Reign of Terror.

many people may say that he was either the hero of the revolution or a murderous tyrant of the revolution. I believe he was a murderous tyrant, he tried to justify the mass killings if the terror as being necessary to save the revolution. He was a villian.

Robespierre died on the guillotine. The threat of the Assembly turning on the Committe was alwys real and although he tried to commit suicide, that escape also failed him.
