Best Answer

It is found in rock VERY deep into the Earth which has been under an enormous amount of force for roughly one million years. It is also 100% Carbon, the same as Coal, so it is possible for Coal to be replaced by diamond.

But I doubt you will live to see it! :P

Diamonds form deep underground due to carbon remains of dead trees etc being put under immense pressure. Sometimes they can be found closer to the surface of the Earth due earthquakes etc moving them closer to the surface.

Another Answer

Diamonds are formed deep within the earth's mantel under immense pressure and extreme heat. Diamonds surface upon eruption through volcanic pipes.

One hundred percent of the world's diamonds come from a depth of between 140 to 180 km within the earth's mantle and are erupted to the earth's surface by way of volcanic pipes.

Only one in 200 of these pipes produces diamonds. Volcanic pipes are being mined today in many countries in Africa -- Botswana being the largest producer there -- and in Canada, India, Brazil, Russia and Australia.
India or that general area. From the ground.
