from 1958 to 1960 Elvis Presley was in the Army

What branch of the military did Elvis Presley serve in?

Elvis was inducted into the ARMY. This is copy and pasted from www.history.army.mil. Elvis Aron Presley entered the United States Army at Memphis, Tennessee, on March 24, 1958, and then spent three days at the Fort Chaffee, Arkansas, Reception Station. He left active duty at Fort Dix, New Jersey, on March 5, 1960, and received his discharge from the Army Reserve on March 23, 1964. During his active military career Mr. Presley served as a member of two different armor battalions. Between March 28 and September 17, 1958, he belonged to Company A, 2d Medium Tank Battalion, 37th Armor, stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. During this assignment he completed basic and advanced military training. Mr. Presley's overseas service took place in Germany from October 1, 1958, until March 2, 1960, as a member of the 1st Medium Tank Battalion, 32d Armor. For the first five days of that period he belonged to Company D of the battalion, and thereafter to the battalion's Headquarters Company at Friedberg. While in Germany Mr. Presley wore the shoulder sleeve insignia of the 3d Armored Division.

Elvis Presley what was he worth when he died?

At the time of Elvis Presley death on August 16, 1977; Elvis' "gross" wealth was estimated to be (approximately) $ 5,000,000.00 five millions dollars. Elvis "net" wealth (i.e. gross wealth minus debts) was estimated to be (approximately) $ 1, 000,000.00 one million dollars (note: this does not include the value of any life insurance policies).

How did Elvis spend his last hours?

He spent it quietly at Gracelands.

How did being a christian help Elvis Presley to get stronger?

Elvis was raised to believe in God/Jesus Christ and the importance of the second commandment "to love thy neighbor with all thy heart". Elvis, as a child, suffered firsthand concerning; his family was poor, his twin brother died at birth, his mother miscarried in her second pregnancy, his father spent time in jail (note: he made full restitution to all parties), going without options for food/clothes, etc. Throughout it all Elvis kept his faith in God and the reading of the bible, a practice Elvis kept throughout his life, along with going to Church where he loved to hear the choir sing made a great impact on him. At Elvis' height of popularity Elvis was drafted into the US Army (i.e. in December of 1957) and within a year had lost the love of his life...his Mother (Gladys Love Presley) on August 14, 1958. This event was the hardest of his life and his faith helped him to "go on". Elvis always questioned "why me", pertaining to his blessings of fame and wealth, and adhered to his faith of helping his fellow man. In later years Elvis' faith helped him when it came to going through his divorce, his health issues (mentally, physcially, emotionally, etc.), and unrelenting rumors about his abuse of prescribed medications. Elvis' three Grammy Awards were all in the Gospel category and Elvis sang Gospel Songs onstage throughout his life. He would stay up, even after doing two shows a day in Las Vegas, all hours harmonizing/singing Gospel songs. He also went to the Gospel Conventions (always staying backstage so as not to "show up" the Gospel acts). Without his faith there would not of been an "Elvis Presley" as we know him. Many lessons can be learned about Elvis, and life in general, by studying him and knowing the facts about him. Even after these (approximately) six decades I still find out "new facts" about Elvis and I am thankful for your question and for answers.com.

Was Elvis in the army?

Duh, no. He was a singer. look up who did in a history book like the one i have. wow....why would you answer like this.....not very nice....here is the answer for Elvis Presley's military career: Elvis Aron Presley entered the United States Army at Memphis, Tennessee, on March 24, 1958, and then spent three days at the Fort Chaffee, Arkansas, Reception Station. He left active duty at Fort Dix, New Jersey, on March 5, 1960, and received his discharge from the Army Reserve on March 23, 1964. What was Elvis Presley's childhood and family like?

Elvis had many obstacles in his life beginning with the knowledge that he was the only baby/son to survive when he was on January 8, 1935. Elvis' twin brother, Jessie (named after Elvis' grandfather) Garon, was born "stillborn" (i.e. dead). Elvis had many medical conditions as a child including; asthma, chronic insomnia, sleepwalking, anxiety, allergies, etc. Elvis and his family were very poor. At one point Elvis' lost his Father, Vernon Presley, as he spent time in jail for altering a check (note: Vernon made full restitution to the state and to the injured party). Elvis was "different" in the way he expressed himself, the diversity of his taste in music/style, and even the clothes he wore. After he became famous, during the height of his fame, he was drafted into the US Army where he served from 1958-1960. Elvis' beloved Mother died on August 14, 1958 and Elvis never got over losing his mother and knew that his being away in the Army wore heavily on her heart. Elvis was one of the first celebrities whose marriage problems, resulting in a divorce decree issued on October 9, 1973, were made public in the newspapers - TV - radio, etc. Elvis loved his daughter, Lisa Marie, and had to adjust to the reality that his time with her would be limited, but of quality, because of the divorce. As Elvis' heath issues increased (i.e. problems with his eyesight, his digestive system, pain in his joints/bones/knee/back, heart, etc.) so did his dependency of prescribed medications. In 1977 a book entitled "Elvis, What Happened", which was written in part by two of his oldest friends who had worked with Elvis from his earliest days until 1976, disclosed Elvis' use of prescription medications. In spite of his ill health, and fearing his fans would abandon him, Elvis kept his contractual obligations and allowed the filming of his live concert. Elvis looked very "bad" and the swelling was obvious to anyone and yet he sang his heart out and hit notes that few singers could ever hope to hit. He (literally) gave his fans all that he had. The obstacles Elvis had were not wholly unique to him but one of the lessons of Elvis' life is to use the talents you are blessed with and the harder the obstacle the sweeter it is when you overcome it - learn from it - and help others to do the same.
