Generally speaking, when an engine "misses" (fails to fire on all cylinders,) there is a failure in the ignition system. Since most factory ignition systems lose power at higher RPMs, flaws in the wiring or spark plugs will become aparent. Given the age of your car, replcement of the plugs and wires will probably solve the problem. Note: If you note excessive dirt or grease on the spark plugs when you remove them, the problem may be minor oil leak in the engine. If these are not fixed, the problem will return when the new plugs foul up.

This engine featured Honda's VTEC system, which allowed for variable valve timing, enhancing performance at higher RPMs. The D16Z6 was a popular choice among enthusiasts for its tunability and efficiency. Overall, while it did have VTEC, it was not branded as a "Vetech" engine.
